Command & Conquer: Rivals PVP review

Command & Conquer has always been one of the most popular real-time strategies on the market. At last, it came to mobile platforms too. Command & Conquer Rivals will challenge your strategy-making skills in fast-paced PvP matches. The game is available for free on Google Play and the App Store. Over 1,5 million players are already in so you won’t have a shortage of opponents.

Storyline 8/10

Unlike the previous installments in the series, such as Red Alert and the original C&C, Command & Conquer Rivals doesn’t have a storyline. Instead, it focuses on PvP multiplayer matchmaking. You can choose to join one of 4 factions, including Rovals, Nod, Brotherhood, and GDI. Each clan in the roster is endowed with special traits and abilities. For example, Jade can launch catalyzation rockets; Pvt Jackson can conduct a heroic attack. Besides, they all have unique unit designs. Command & Conquer Rivals gameplay involves fighting for gaining control over platforms that surround missile launch stations.

Your main goal is to conquer control over more platforms than your enemy and hold your positions for a fixed period. When the bar gets full, the launch station will activate and attack the opponent’s base automatically. To become a winner, you have to launch more missiles before your enemy does it.

The current version of Command & Conquer Rivals features only 1v1 competitive mode. Not that it’s boring to play, but we’d like to see options for 2v2 or 3v3 matchmaking too. The current size of the battlefield is not enough for that, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem to scale it as the cells are big enough. At this point, Command & Conquer Rivals is very similar to Heroes of Might and Magic in a real-time edition.

We appreciate that Electronic Arts didn’t try to mimic strategy-like MOBAs by Supercell and gave a chance to the original idea. This installment is worth the attention of fans and new players, but it strongly lacks a conventional single-player offline campaign.

Graphics and Sound 9/10

Command & Conquer Rivals looks juicy. Traditionally for the franchise, all units, constructions, and vehicles have weird retro-futuristic designs and bright skins. The detalization of locations is pretty much on the same quality level as Command & Conquer Generals. However, the overall style is closer to Tiberium Wars and Red Alert series.

The sound design preserves the best traditions of C&C. The soundtrack features some epic rock and electronic melodies, while the units always react to your commands with a fun battle cry. DIfferent sounds of weapons and mechanisms add spice to the gameplay.
