Prior to the onset of summer, we divulged that Square Enix was charting a fresh course favoring a broader distribution model, moving away from platform-specific releases—a tactic to which they were formerly committed. Notably, this year witnessed the debut of titles like Forspoken and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, which were initially available exclusively or mainly on PlayStation 5.

During a conversation at Gamescom with Naoki Yoshida, the driving force behind Final Fantasy XIV, Eurogamer delved into this very topic. Yoshida reaffirmed Square Enix's revised direction, delineating plans to extend their catalog to include the Xbox community:

"However, at Square Enix, we're in the process of transitioning our approach. We're now embracing the practice of launching our games across several platforms because we want to reach the widest audience possible. Starting with Final Fantasy XIV, we're planning to bring more of Square Enix's portfolio to Xbox players. Therefore, more of our games will be landing on the Xbox. I invite gamers to anticipate the new experiences that will emerge on this platform."

While there's been speculation about Final Fantasy XVI being released for Xbox, there has yet to be an official announcement. Conversely, it appears the Final Fantasy VII remake saga will retain its PlayStation-exclusive status among consoles, as suggested by earlier accounts. Nevertheless, it looks promising that an expanded selection of the firm's productions will grace Microsoft's gaming systems in times ahead.
